Charles Luminary

“Anyone can sculpt it. Not everyone can make it feel alive.”

I make one-of-one sculptures and hand-painted figures for private collectors, and I teach figure painting in live workshops. My commissions run through Luminary Studios, my one-person studio.

About

From a Reddit question to collectors worldwide

My work started with an obsession with anatomical sculpture and fine-scale finishing. Most of my studio hours go into paint: skin undertones, anatomical shadows, reflections in the eyes, built up coat by coat. When a standard model can’t hold the pose a client wants, I sculpt from scratch around brass and steel armatures.

In April 2024 I asked r/Philippines how a local sculpture artist could survive. The answer was to aim worldwide: people said the work already looked like official figures made for foreign collectors. I took that advice. My one-of-one pieces now go to private collectors in the United States, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

Teaching & speaking

Teaching the craft, one room at a time

I lead Bloominary, a figure painting workshop series covering palette control, airbrush gradients, micro-glazes, and eye finishing. I’ve led eight-plus live sessions so far.

I’m also available for convention appearances, live painting and sculpting demonstrations, panels, and interviews. Topics I cover:

  • Live micro-painting and airbrush gradients
  • Anatomy and structural balance in dynamic figures
  • Taking a digital 3D sculpt to a finished physical piece
  • Building an independent studio for international collectors
